Colorectal cancer is much easier to treat effectively if it is found at a very early stage. CT colonography (also known as virtual colonoscopy) is a special type of CT scan that can find many colorectal polyps and cancers early, without requiring actual colonoscopy. This test is mostly only performed after the colon has been cleaned out using a large amount of liquid laxative.
